I’m so glad I no longer smoke traditional cigarettes. I already did a post about what smoking does to the air and the pollutants they produced but I never considered the impact the butts have. I was walking to class today and I realized there were a lot of butts on the sidewalk and especially at the bus stop. I did a little digging and learned how long it takes for the butts to decompose. They take anywhere from 18 months to 10 years. 10 YEARS!? According to the American Lung Association, over 15 Billion cigarettes are sold worldwide every day. That is a lot of butts!
Not only are the butts littering up the streets, birds and fish eat them. The tar and nicotine seep into the ground and water and affect everything they come in contact with.
I am very green conscience and I want to bring awareness to butt waste. I ask all of my followers and readers to educate at least one smoker on the impact cigarettes have on the earth. Electronic cigarettes are an awesome alternative because they are not only better for the environment but for your health!
